Classic Knit Summer Top

This beginner knit top will take you from work, to the movies and off to your weekend getaway. Pair this top with a blazer for the office, or wear it with jeans or shorts for a casual day out. A true classic for summer, fall and beyond.
Keep it simple .. just 2 rectangles, or add designer touches of your own.

Easy knitting! This classic summer top can be knit with any yarn, on any machine in any stitch pattern (lace anyone?)

The bateau (boat) neckline requires no shaping (unless you choose to). Basically just 2 rectangles, it's beginner-friendly.

The original pattern is knit on size 11 needles (the yarn is too thick for our machines). Knit in the yarn of your choice.

Note the 4x4 ribbing – it won't pull in too much, but adds a nice finishing touch.
A couple of rows of hand-manipulated garter stitch at the neckline isn't too much of a commitment.

Customize it!

AShape the neckline for comfort (use the Knit It Now pattern).
BIf ½ your bust is wider than your shoulders, consider shaping the armholes with the magic formula
CAdd short sleeves if desired.
DAdd bust darts.
EShorten for a cropped sweater or lengthen for a tunic.
FRound the side seams for a shirt-tail hem.
